In preparation for the beginning of the restoration, researcher from CNR (National Council for Research) performed some tests on the bronzes to determine the quality of the metal alloy and the patinas, in order to get information on the types and causes of degradation and to refine the methodology of the intervention of restoration.
After that, endoscopies have been carried out with a micro-camera inserted inside cracks through the bronze, to explore the interior of the statue and assess the state of conservation of the bronze, and cleaning tests to understand the level of consistency of surface deposits and patinas that cover the bronze, and predict the final effect of the restoration work.
